Slickwater fracturing is a productive and cost-efficient well stimulation method. The friction reducing properties of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide has allowed fluid systems to be pumped at fast rates while minimizing strain on surface equipment.

However, the performance of friction reducing polymers is diminished by the presence of monovalent and divalent cations in the mix water.

Adding Stepan Oilfield Solutions’ patent-pending PETROSTEP FRB-5 surfactant to slickwater fluids can enhance the performance of freshwater friction reducers (FRs), enabling them to perform comparably to salt-tolerant FRs designed for brines with high total dissolved solids.
