The use of essential oils in beauty and personal care products has increased over 50% in the last five years (Mintel GNPD 2015-2020). This formulation uses ALPHA-STEP® PC-48, a sulfate-free, naturally derived anionic surfactant with hydrotropic properties that may allow you to incorporate essential oils into your cleansers without the need for additional solubilizers. Making a body wash or shampoo instead? This formulation is easy to scale up (or down!) by adjusting the total surfactant actives.

Mixing Procedure:
- Add Phase 1 ingredients to the main tank with regular mixing until batch is uniform.
- In a separate tank, premix Phase 2 ingredients in an auxiliary tank until clear. Next, slowly transfer contents from the auxiliary tank to the main tank with SLOW mixing to ensure mixture does not foam. Continue mixing until batch is uniform and continue to the next tank.
- With slow mixing, slowly add Phase 3 ingredients to the main tank. Continue slow mixing until batch is uniform*
- Ensure slow mixing is maintained to minimize aeration
- Add Phase 4 ingredients to the main tank, as a solution or granules, for pH adjustment as needed.
- Use Phase 5 ingredients, as a solution or granules, to adjust viscosity (to increase it) as needed.
